Top 10 Cybersecurity Trends

Cyber-attacks are a constant threat to businesses of all sizes across all industries. At NetWatcher we’re tracking these threats and have come up with a list of the top 10 cybersecurity trends that will shape the market in the months ahead.

  1. Small and mid-sized enterprises will be pressured by customers to increase the security of their networks (i.e. continuous security monitoring).
  2. The U.S. Federal Government will require government contractors (and sub-contractors) to implement continuous security monitoring to work on government contracts.
  3. The “Unintentional Insider Threat” will become a bigger issue and threat to companies.
  4. “Bad Actors” will focus on C-level and board members’ home networks to obtain access to the corporate network.
  5. Wealthy home office attacks will become more common.
  6. The use of vulnerable software (such as Java and Flash) and risky software (such as BitTorrent and TOR) will reduce dramatically on corporate networks due to security issues.
  7. Encrypted internet traffic will increase.
  8. Endpoint technology will be broadly deployed in small and mid-sized enterprises, living side-by-side with anti-virus software.
  9. Cybersecurity education will become more widespread across all levels of a company, including at the most senior management levels.
  10. Increasingly complex attacks and cyber infiltration including distributed denial of service (DDoS) and financial exploitation will be prevalent.
